Why is cosmetic surgery so popular? People want to feel better about themselves. One of the ways people begin to feel better about themselves is by feeling better about how they look. Medical advancements in cosmetic surgery have made such surgery simpler and safer and it has become more acceptable in recent years to have cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is not, as many people think, a modern trend. It has actually been around since ancient times. Archaeologists have unearthed evidence that the Ancient Greeks and Romans performed plastic surgeries to cure birth defects, improve the appearance of injuries incurred during wars and to help erase the evidence of disfigurements given as punishment for crimes. After all, it is human nature for people to want to look their best.

- “Nose Jobs” – or rhinoplasty, are the most popular form of cosmetic surgery today. Rhinoplasty is low to moderate on the scale of invasive procedures and it can dramatically alter the appearance of the face. A good nose job can go far in improving facial appearance.
- Liposuction – comes in at number two on the cosmetic surgery popularity charts. Many people today are significantly overweight. Liposuction normally shows excellent results, making a popular surgical option.
- Eyebrow lifts – Over time, it’s common for people’s eyes to acquire a tired look. As the eyes are the thing we automatically look to when we speak to someone, it is no surprise that people would feel self-conscious if the area around the eyes doesn’t look as nice as it could do.
- Breast enlargement – is number four. Women feel more secure getting breasts enlarged now that breast implants are safer.
- Facelifts – are the last on the list. Most patients are very happy that they have had a face lift. However, a facelift is a very intrusive procedure and necessitates a fairly long time for recovery.
